G0VHF/P today installed 2 x 7 element LFA Yagis in preparation for the RSGB 4M contest on Sunday 4th April. These antennas are an unpublished design which uses 1/2 inch elements throughout and was specially designed for G8HVY as a 2x stack. Named 4C7HVY, these Yagis produce over 13.3dBi each and when stacked at just 5m apart provide just shy of 16.1dBi. Increasing the spacing to 5.5M gives a perfect 3dB increase over the single antenna.

when installing and testing on Saturday 3rd April 2010, all UK beacons where heard with ease, including GB3ANG in Scotland and some reports with just 50 watts output included a 55 from PA7F.Tests also showed an incredible F/B ratio (something the LFA is becoming renowned for) reducing GB3BAA from 599 to a noisy 419 when pointing away from the beacon.

These encouraging reports mean that with the full 160 watts output permitted in the UK and in-use during the contest, G0VHF/P may well be in a position to better their 2nd overal in the 2009 4M Trophy. Early indications are that with 64 QSO's and 13,695 point, G0VHF will finish within the top 2 or 3 and is heading the leader board at the moment: http://www.rsgbcc.org/cgi-bin/claim.pl?Contest=First%2070MHz%20Contest&year=2010

Fingers crossed, it could be a first time out win for the 2 x 7el LFA!!
