With the last first, I had this mail today (22nd November 2010) from Andy, M0CTR who has just built and installed a 3el LFA for 24MHz:

The 24MHz 3el LFA installed at M0CTR

'Hi Justin,
Well here we are with the 12m beam, I apologies for the quality of the pics, the best ones are actually the beam in the air but it was an awful day yesterday with fine drizzle and that got on the lens, Some better ones to follow I promise. The beam works and tuned a treat, first contact was into Paraguay which is not a common contact on 12 for me, cream of the days was HK0 San Andreas and province, in Central America, working split and with quite a pile up, that's a new band slot for me, also worked into Brazil, as well as several contacts to N. America. It seems to give a very quite reception and the results are very encouraging considering the SFI was below 80 again.
The dimensions were spot on for a perfect SWR...'

'...The LFA worked a treat and I followed your advise from the web site which worked perfectly..'

Andy M0CTR

Next we head south, much further south to ZL land and visit Bob ZL1RS who has been busy this southern hemisphere spring building 2 x 6.4m Long LFAs for 50MHz and a 5OWA28SEK 5el OWA Yagi for 28MHz too!

'... so I moved the antenna out to the eastern paddock today, still only at 6 meters high but SWR still flat from 27.9 to 29.1'

Bob ZL1RS

2 x 6el 50MHz 6.4m long LFAs installed at ZL1RS

'...The overall stack's SWR curve is flat but a bit higher in the band than I had hoped ... less than 1.5:1 from 49.9 to 50.9 and less than 1.1:1 from 50.250 to 50.700 (and a flat 1:1 for most of that).  Must be something in the phasing harness system because the individual antenna SWR curves were lower in frequency (as per my earlier e-mail).  The phasing harness is certainly a bit short if anything.

The stack's F/B is about 28dB at 50.1 and about 20dB at 50.760, so the pattern is right...'

Staying south, we now head off to VK land were Glenn, VK7AB has just installed his 8el 50MHz LFA ready for summer 2010/11

Finally after 12 months I have the antenna in the air. I haven't been able to get a decent shot for you as the sun is positioned right in the wrong spot Hi... I will take a couple more in the morning when the sun is behind me. The analyzer shot is straight after the antenna going up so no adjustments have been made to the loop yet. That is the result from measurement on the ground 12 months ago when the antenna was assembled. Slack I know but its up now ready for some fun this summer.'

Back to sunny G land and the shack of G0LFF. Dick decided to build the 4.4m long LFA Yagi and made a pretty good job of it too. In the continuous sunshine seen here in the UK, his LFA looks pretty good.

'Have done the final tweaks and now have SWR 1.0 to 1 @50mhz and 1.1 to 1 @50.6mhz. '

Dick, G0LFF

Now we head across the Channel to F land where Alain, F1GXV has been busy building 4 x 7el LFA Yagis for the 2m band.

2 of Alain's 7el 144MHz LFA Yagis with a copper driven loop, nice job.

Now we head straight south to ZS land to the shack of Barry, ZS2EZ and his newly installed 5el LFA for the 70MHz band.

The ZS2EZ 70MHz LFA Yagi

'Hi Justin

Here are 2 photos of my 5el 4m LFA. First QSO with this antenna was a 1178km MS QSO (FSK441) with ZS6NK in Polokwane.'

Barry ZS2EZ

Now we head of to Mexico and the shack of XE1R. Joaquin has already built a 6el 50MHz LFA and asked me to design an OWL for 147MHz. Below is the installed result.

That is pretty much it over the last couple of weeks, if you have been building (or plan to) any G0KSC Yagis, please let me know and PLEASE!! send photos too!

Until next time,
